Meiji Rich Matcha
A description of Meiji Matcha requires a lengthy introduction. In the not-so-far reaches of the school I go to, we have what we fondly call the “Meron Lagoon”. Speculations include it being a repository for waste from the chem lab, and one that is grounded in a concept in Philosophy (which I can’t explain because I took up Philosophy taught in English, not Filipino). Sakura or Cherry Blossom Kit Kat from Japan
A friend just came back from Japan and was kind enough to give me funky food stuff from the land of matcha, cherry blossoms and utter cuteness. I promised to foodblog each one, so here goes the first thing I tried: Cherry Blossom Kit Kat. (I chose it because it was pink!)

Japan has this penchant for making everything aesthetically perfect and/or cute. Kit Kat is no exception. To commemorate the annual viewing of the cherry blossoms, they released a Sakura or Cherry Blossom version of your favorite four sticks of fun. This time, the wafers are blanketed with pink and white swirls of cherry-flavored (or is it cherry blossom-flavored?) milky chocolate.

It actually tastes a bit flowery (like drinking iced chrysanthemum tea)… suddenly you’re propelled back in pre-school when all of your friends thought it was cool to munch on your scented erasers. Is it time to say “Kawaii!!” now?

8 Things for 2008

1. Give dodgy places a second look.
Burgos may be the home of more R-18 exploits, but one of the small, narrow establishments leads you to a nifty diner. The Filling Station seems to have been plucked straight out of the US, with its checkerboard floor, red leather booths, and of course, awesome milkshake.
